Method

Follow these steps to make jeera rice: 1. Rinse the basmati rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Drain the rice and set it aside. 2. Heat the ghee or oil in a medium-sized pot over medium heat. 3. Add the cumin seeds, cloves, green cardamom pods, and bay leaf to the pot. Stir for a few seconds until the cumin seeds start to sizzle. 4. Add the drained rice to the pot and stir for 1-2 minutes until the rice grains are coated with the ghee or oil. 5. Add 2 cups of water to the pot and add salt to taste. Stir gently. 6. Increase the heat to high and bring the water to a boil. 7. Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. 8. Cook the rice for 15-20 minutes or until all the water has been absorbed and the rice is cooked through. 9. Once the rice is cooked, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. 10. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
