Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 package (10 oz) marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp water
  • Pretzel sticks
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Wax paper
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Piping bag
  • Scissors
  • Microwave-safe bowl

Method

  1. Line a 9x13 inch baking dish with wax paper and set it aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  3. Add the marshmallows to the pan and stir until they're completely melted.
  4. Add the corn syrup, salt, and vanilla extract to the pan and stir until everything is well combined.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat and add the Rice Krispies cereal to the mixture. Stir until the cereal is completely coated.
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and press it down evenly with a spatula.
  7. Let the mixture cool for a few minutes, then use your hands to shape it into little hay bales. Use a pretzel stick to make a hole in the top of each bale.
  8. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until they're completely melted.
  9. Use a piping bag to pipe melted chocolate on top of each hay bale, filling in the hole and creating a "rope" around the bale to look like twine.
  10. In a small bowl, mix together the powdered sugar and water until you have a thick but pourable glaze.
  11. Use a spoon to drizzle the glaze over the top of the hay bales to look like "hay".
  12. Let the hay bales cool and set completely before serving.
