- 1 package (10 oz) marshmallows
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp water
- Pretzel sticks
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
Equipment
- Large saucepan
- 9x13 inch baking dish
- Wax paper
- Mixing bowl
- Whisk
- Piping bag
- Scissors
- Microwave-safe bowl
Method
- Line a 9x13 inch baking dish with wax paper and set it aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
- Add the marshmallows to the pan and stir until they're completely melted.
- Add the corn syrup, salt, and vanilla extract to the pan and stir until everything is well combined.
- Remove the pan from the heat and add the Rice Krispies cereal to the mixture. Stir until the cereal is completely coated.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and press it down evenly with a spatula.
- Let the mixture cool for a few minutes, then use your hands to shape it into little hay bales. Use a pretzel stick to make a hole in the top of each bale.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until they're completely melted.
- Use a piping bag to pipe melted chocolate on top of each hay bale, filling in the hole and creating a "rope" around the bale to look like twine.
- In a small bowl, mix together the powdered sugar and water until you have a thick but pourable glaze.
- Use a spoon to drizzle the glaze over the top of the hay bales to look like "hay".
- Let the hay bales cool and set completely before serving.
