Ingredients

  • 3 cups of puffed rice
  • 1/2 cup of peanuts
  • 1/2 cup of roasted chana dal
  • 1/4 cup of cashews
  • 1/4 cup of raisins
  • 1/4 cup of dried coconut flakes
  • 1 tsp of mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp of cumin seeds
  • 2-3 dried red chilies
  • 10-12 curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp of red chili powder
  • 2 tbsp of oil
  • Salt to taste

Equipment

  • A large mixing bowl
  • A frying pan
  • A slotted spoon
  • A plate lined with paper towels

Method

  1. Heat a frying pan over low heat and dry roast the puffed rice for 2-3 minutes. Transfer it to a mixing bowl.
  2. In the same pan, add 1 tbsp of oil and fry the peanuts, roasted chana dal, cashews, raisins, and coconut flakes until they turn golden brown. Transfer them to the mixing bowl.
  3. In the same pan, add another tbsp of oil and add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dried red chilies, and curry leaves. Fry until the mustard seeds start to pop.
  4. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to the pan and mix well.
  5. Turn off the heat and add the fried mixture to the mixing bowl. Mix well until all the ingredients are well combined.
  6. Let the mixture cool down to room temperature.
  7. Store the Puffed Rice Chivda in an airtight container and enjoy it anytime you want.

Notes

  • You can add any other nuts or seeds of your choice to the mixture.
  • Adjust the spice level according to your taste.
