For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:- 1 cup basmati rice
- 2 cups water
- 2 tablespoons ghee
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1 teaspoon garlic paste
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon fresh coriander leaves, chopped
Equipment
For this recipe, you will need a heavy-bottomed pan with a lid and a spoon for stirring.Method
1. Wash the basmati rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in cold water for 30 minutes. 2. Drain the rice and set it aside. 3. In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat the ghee over medium heat. 4. Add the cumin seeds and fry them for 30 seconds or until they start to splutter. 5. Add the chopped onions and fry them until they turn golden brown. 6. Add the ginger paste, garlic paste, and slit green chilies. Fry for 30 seconds. 7. Add the drained rice to the pan and stir to combine with the onion mixture. 8. Add 2 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir well. 9. Cover the pan with a lid and bring the water to a boil. 10. Reduce the heat to low and let the rice cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the water has been absorbed and the rice is tender. 11. Remove the pan from the heat and let it sit for 5 minutes. 12. Fluff the rice with a fork and sprinkle fresh coriander leaves on top before serving.Notes
