Prep Time

Cook Time

The cook time is approximately 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1/2 cup besan (gram flour)
  • 2 tbsp. sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp. red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Oil for deep frying

Equipment

  • Chakli maker (also known as a press)
  • Deep-frying pan
  • Spatula

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, add rice flour, besan, sesame seeds, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix all the ingredients well.
  2. Now add oil and mix well. Add water gradually and knead into a soft dough.
  3. Heat oil in a deep-frying pan on medium heat.
  4. Grease the chakli maker with oil and insert the chakli mold into it.
  5. Take a small portion of the dough and put it into the chakli maker. Press the dough into the hot oil in a circular motion to form chaklis.
  6. Fry the chaklis until they turn golden brown on both sides. Remove them from the oil and place them on a tissue paper to absorb excess oil.
  7. Repeat the process with the remaining dough.
  8. Once the chaklis cool down, store them in an airtight container.
  9. Enjoy the crispy and delicious rice flour and besan chaklis with your favorite chutney or dip.

Notes

  • The dough should be soft and pliable, but not sticky. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water, and if it is too sticky, add a little more rice flour.
  • The oil should be hot, but not smoking, when you fry the chaklis.
  • Make sure to fry the chaklis on medium heat to ensure they are cooked evenly and do not burn.
